(1er novembre 1935, Jérusalem - 25 septembre 2003, New York; Théoricien littéraire, critique et intellectuel palestinien de citoyenneté américaine. Il a enseigné de 1963 jusqu'à sa mort en 2003 la littérature anglaise et la littérature comparée à l'université Columbia de New York, et est l'auteur de nombreux livres de critique littéraire et musicale, ainsi que sur le conflit israélo-arabe. Son ouvrage le plus célèbre est L'Orientalisme, publié en 1978. L'ouvrage a été traduit en 36 langues et est considéré comme le texte fondateur des études postcoloniales.

الحرب الغبية


انها الحرب الأغبى والأكثر تهوراً في العصور الحديثة. وجوهرها العنجهية الامبريالية والافتقار الى الحكمة في التعامل مع العالم، والتخلي عن أي اعتبار أو اتعاظ بالتجربة التاريخية ومدى التعقيد في شؤون البشر سيل التقارير والتعليقات الاعلامية عن الحرب، بكل ما فيه من الكذب الصارخ والتعتيم والتأكيدات الفارغة يكاد أن يحجب عن الأذهان مدى الغباء الاجرامي في مجالا [...].

أوروبا مقابل أمريكا


زرت انكلترا عشرات المرات لكنني لا أبقى فيها أكثر من أُسبوع أو أُسبوعين كل مرة. أما هذه السنة فإنني أُقيم لمدة شهرين تقريباً في جامعة كمبردج، حيث استضافتني واحدة من الكليات لإلقاء سلسلة من المحاضرات عن الإنسانوية. أول ما يمكن قوله أن الحياة هنا أقل توتراً وأهدأ وتيرة بكثير منها في جامعتي “كولومبيا” في نيويورك. وربما كان سبب ذلك، ولو جزء منه، أن بريطا [...].
